Surveillance cameras keep your home safe and help you monitor and protect your children, but they can be compromised which affects your privacy and can be a danger to you and your family.
Methods to secure home surveillance cameras:
- Update the cameras’ systems constantly.
- Install the cameras and necessary equipment through trusted service providers
- Do not access the surveillance system through public networks
- Change the default factory settings and use an unrepeated password. Change the password regularly and do not share it with the service provider
- Enable two-factor authentication if available
- Communicate only with trusted service providers for support and maintenance
- Setup a Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) on your home network and use it only for the surveillance systems, which include the cameras.
- Watch the camera’s light; as it can be compromised if the light is on when it is not being used. Make sure to unplug it immediately when you suspect that it is compromised.
